In addition to hands-on STEM workshops, the JR TECH provides students a way of learning about career paths and opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Students meet professionals and educators during our hands-on STEM workshops who discuss career paths. Each professional provides his or her own advice on studying and pursuing a career in a STEM field. In addition, many of our workshops incorporate role-modeling or role-simulating activities. For example, working with specialists at the National Marine Live Center in Buzzards Bay, students see what it is like to be a marine animal technician.
In addition, JR TECH provides an informal intern program. JR TECH alumni often inquire about non-paid internships and volunteer opportunities. Through our vast network with research institutions, non-profit organizations and local businesses, we assist in matching up our alumni with an opportunity within their field of interest.
Our aim is to expose kids to new experiences, to spark an interest in STEM fields, and to broaden awareness of STEM career paths.
