What parents have to say about JR.TECH

"This is one of the best programs ever...they gave a scholarship to my son and we are so grateful....I'd recommend this program to anyone who has kids....it keeps the love of science alive in our kids." -- Alycia Pepin

"Thank you very much for offering such interesting and enriching programs.... my son was having a hard time choosing- they all sound so appealing!" -- Lisa Judelson

"We are grandparents raising our grandchild and recently enrolled him in the February, 2009 Bridges -- Build'Em and Bust'Em. We are both retired educators and must say that the instructor, Kathy, was Great. I can only wish that I had a teacher of her excellence on my staff. Our grandson learned to work with-in a group and gained a great amount of knowledge about structures. We will be enrolling him in the spring break workshops. He has applied to the UCT school for his high school experience, in part because of this program." --  Jerry (Ret:Superintendent) & Marilyn (Ret:SPED)

"I was very impressed with both the Build 'Em and Bust 'Em and the Space Works Academy. Not only were the instructors very knowledgeable, they made the class interesting and fun for the students! I also found it very easy to sign up and to receive information about the Jr. Tech programs. My son Joshua, age 11, enjoyed going each day. Even though the drive from Harwich to Bourne is quite far, it was well worth the drive! I felt confidant leaving him in very capable and nurturing hands for both workshops each day. Thank you so much for having these available over vacation periods to keep young minds active!"-- Victoria Donovan

"As parents, we are thrilled that these opportunities exist for him to explore the world of technology." --  LA Hesse

"My grandson, Hunter, had a wonderful experience at 'Moon Camp'. On the way home he said, 'That workshop was the best thing that ever happened to me…that and Nintendo.' "
--  M. Hogan

"My daughter loved the Turtle TLC and Seals SOS workshop in July and continued her interest by attending the turtle release by NMLC at Dowses Beach in August! Very awesome! Your programs are terrific! As a mom and 7th grade teacher, I have been very impressed by the quality of instruction and the high-interest factor of your offerings!"
-- M. Dunham

""I have a kid who eats up anything he can learn about science, especially technology and engineering. The time teachers can spend on these topics in school is limited, so it's great to find resources like the Junior Tech program to feed his passion. He loved the Design Squad Challenge workshop because it was fun, challenging, and included an element of competition that he really enjoys."

What JR.TECH Alumni have to say:

Dylan K. says:
"I want to thank you for the unique opportunities you gave me. With you, I had an opportunity to participate in two necropsies, operate R.O.V.'s, and take a class on animal behaviors. The necropsies were amazing! And I actually got to participate! That poor seal and that poor dolphin. It's so sad, how cruel nature can be. By doing the necropsy, we learned that the dolphin's wound happened before it died. It was perfectly healthy and ate very well. The dolphin was young, and female. The seal was young too, not yet a mature adult. The seal was female, and had been euthanized on account of the terrible head wound she had received. She was missing her tail and was definitely not in the prime of health. She had worms, and had eaten an incredible amount of sand and stones. And we learned all this by doing a necropsy. It was incredible!

The R.O.V.'s were incredible too. My favorite one was the one that looked like a mini sub with a camera inside. With it, I got a glimpse of a school of small, shiny, pink fish that shimmered in the glow from the lights that were on the R.O.V. The bottom of the ocean had a lot of sand and rocks, and seaweed tangled in the propellers. The current didn't help either. It was a little challenging to drive the R.O.V.'s, in a fun sort of way.

The class on animal behaviors was very informational. We practiced our observational skills on baby turtles. They were so cute! The last day, we went on a whale watch. I had never seen a whale breach before, but one whale breached continuously. It was like the whale knew that it was being watched and was putting on a show. And because I had taken the class, I knew the real names for the behaviors. This one whale did almost everything! It was really cool. I look forward to doing more activities with you in the future.

I can never thank you enough.

Jackie H. says:
"As a result of participating in the high school level CSI Marine Mammal workshop offered by the JR. TECH Program, my interest in studying marine biology increased.  I enjoyed meeting the instructors at Woods Hole and doing a necropsy so much that I declared my major in marine biology at Northeastern. JR. TECH's mentoring program provided me contacts for a summer volunteer internship working with professionals at WHOI.
Thanks JR. TECH!"

Zachery H. says:
"I have taken, movie making, Photoshop, and trebuchet workshops.  If you had asked me how to make a computer movie before I took the workshop, I would have said “Are you kidding?” Now, I am making movies all by myself. It’s fun to learn something new with your friends. The teachers are really nice."
